Internal Medicine Service

Dougherty staffs the internal medicine service.  Services provided include consultation, diagnostics and treatment of all general internal medicine conditions.  Additionally, Dr. Dougherty offers endoscopy, ultrasonography (abdominal and cardiothoracic), cardiology and pulmonary medicine.

In addition to general internal medicine, she also offers diagnostics and long-term management of oncology (cancer) patients, including chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is be provided in concurrence with OSHA standards providing safe administration for the patient and the staff providing such care.

Management of complex internal medicine cases is also offered by Dr. Dougherty i.e. diabetes mellitus, hyperadrenocorticism, inflammatory bowel disease, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy to name a few.

Dr. Dougherty will do telephone consultations with RDVMs on lab work and history, and can usually make recommendations. However, as is generally the case, a consultation appointment with Dr. Dougherty to review the history and perform a physical examination will facilitate the diagnostic and therapeutic process. Following completion of workup for the problem the patient was referred for, the RDVM will be consulted for location of future management (BVS or RDVM). BVS remains available and is happy to assist in continued management should the patient be sent back to the RDVM.  General veterinary care is not be provided by BVS and any client requesting general care will need to return to the RDVM for it (ie: vaccinations, dentals, or general care for other than the original complaint). Radiographic consults are also available from Dr. Dougherty.  Finally, a summary letter will be sent to the RDVM for their record for all services.

Surgery Service

Dr. Mark B. Parchman staffs the surgery service. Cases are seen on a referral basis only.  After a case is referred to BVS and has been examined, Dr. Parchman will call or fax the referring doctor the information and recommendations given to the client.  After any treatment has been performed, a summary letter will be sent to the RDVM for their records along with any pertinent test results. If further treatment is required in the future, follow up notes will then be sent. As with the Internal Medicine Service, full telephone consultations and/or radiographic consults are also be available from Dr. Parchman.  For radiographic consults, a consultation fee will be charged to the veterinary clinic requesting the consult.  Charges for these services should be passed on directly to the client by the veterinary clinic requesting the consult.  The cost of the consult will be deducted from the fee if the client is subsequently referred to BVS for a consultation appointment.
